Maseru, Oct.06—The embassy of Lesotho in Washington, D.C. and the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Lesotho to the United Nations (UN), along with the Basotho communities in the United States of America joined the rest of the country and proudly celebrated the 59th Independence Anniversary.
The event held at Lesotho’s residence in New York, United States of America, featured vibrant displays of traditional food, music, and cultural performances.
The Permanent Representative and Ambassador Mr. Matete ‘Nena highlighted the pride, unity, and rich cultural heritage of the Basotho people.
He addressed the Basotho diaspora, students, and friends living in America, reflecting on the country’s journey and future and addressing the country’s socio-economic challenges.
Basotho honoured their independence and the Basotho people’s long-standing unity and resilience.
Meanwhile, the national celebration led by His Majesty King Letsie III was held in Thaba-Bosiu on Saturday.
Lesotho got her independence on October 04, 1966.
