CARDINALS MEET TO PREPARE FOR POPE FUNERAL

Maseru, Apr. 22 — Cardinals are meeting on Tuesday morning to discuss initial arrangements for Pope Francis’s funeral and to deliberate on the election of his successor.

Pope Francis died on Monday morning following his two-month battle with bronchitis and bilateral pneumonia. He is reported to have suffered a stroke before his last minutes.

The Vatican News has reported that the Apostolic Constitution sets out the more urgent decisions the clerics will need to make during their first summit, and those include when and how the body of the Pontiff will be moved to St. Peter’s Basilica to be exposed for the homage of the faithful.

It further shows that among other things to be decided is the date and time of the funeral which is expected to take place within four to six days of his death, and to discuss funeral expenses as well as read any document that may have been left behind by the Pope. PM/TL
