CHANGES IN ARMY FORCED ME TO FLEE -WITNESS

Maseru, Jul.23 — Major General Matela Matobakele has on Tuesday told the court that there were major changes in the army in 2013 which forced him to flee the country as his life was in danger.

In his evidence in the ongoing bombings trial, he stated that on a day he cannot remember, while on leave, he received an anonymous call adding that the person was not using his original voice. He indicated that the person told him that they were at a gate to Makoanyane Barracks therefore he should leave immediately and not use that gate. He said the person told him that he would get further details later adding that if he makes any mistake, that would be his last day.

He told the court that he looked for a way to escape and after he managed to get out of the barracks, he called his driver and gave him keys. He indicated that he looked for a hiding place while still observing the situation. He said three months later, someone asked him to accompany him to Bloemfontein so that he could get fresh air.  . .
