CIVIL SERVANTS RECEIVE FINANCIAL LITERACY TRAINING

Maseru, May 08 — Civil servants have strongly been urged to be literate financially to be able to make wise choices and decisions when it comes to budgeting. 

This became top of the agenda during a one-day training held in Maseru on Thursday.

The training organised by Metropolitan Lesotho saw civil servants from different departments in the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI) in attendance.

Addressing participants on behalf of Metropolitan, Ms. ‘Mamoroesi Nkome highlighted the importance of employees in different spheres to have knowledge of budgeting, savings and investing, enabling individuals to make informed decisions about their personal finances.

She stipulated that the need for employees to take control over their money is vital, especially at this time of geo-politics challenges in some parts of the world that has worsened economies. 

“We must position ourselves in such a way that we develop better spending habits and prepare for emergencies,” she said.

She pointed out that employees are faced with challenges pertaining to salary increases which are not in line with price hike, the more reason why being equipped financially becomes vital.

Therefore, the golden rule was introduced to participants, with Mr. Lebohang Lekhanya having advised employees to consider points to ponder that include considering things that really matter in one’s life as opposed to luxurious things otherwise needs versus wants.

One of the participants, Mr, Dyke Sehloho, LNBS Director Operations mentioned the importance of this training in helping employees align themselves with budget and other related matters when it comes to tackling financial challenges.

It is anticipated that today’s partnership between Metropolitan and the Ministry will be able to offer this type of sessions and training to employees to transform their lives.
