COURT HAS DUTY TO PROTECT WOMEN-COURT

Maseru, Aug.29—-The High Court through Justice Tseliso Mokoko says the court has the duty to protect women who are constantly becoming victims of Gender Based Violence (GBV).

This the court said on Friday prior to sentencing a 41-year-old Mpho Teetsa of Ha Ralintsi in Mafeteng who was found guilty of intentionally killing a 79-year-old ‘Malebohang Motene whom he accused of being a witch. He was  ultimately sentenced to 40 years imprisonment.

Justice Mokoko stated that women are crying out for protection adding that the court has to protect them. He remarked that the court is concerned about senseless killings of women in the country, especially the elderly adding that there is a public outcry about that. He indicated that it is expected that the elderly women are cared for, loved and protected. He pointed out that they are, however, often killed by young men…
