COURT PROMOTES RESTORATIVE JUSTICE

Maseru, Aug. 17 — As part of promoting restorative justice, the High Court through Justice Mabatsoeneng Hlaele has on Thursday ordered Jobere Kelane of Ha Jimisi in Mazenod together with his family to pay M10,000.00 as compensation to the family of Moeketsi Ntsasa whom he was found guilty of killing.

Kelane was convicted of the murder of Ntsasa whom he burned to death at Ha Jimisi in Mazenod in 2008 after a citizen’s arrest was made on him (the deceased) for allegedly stealing at a shop belonging to him (the accused).

The court stated that as the families are neighbours the compensation which is in the Basotho custom referred to as ‘raising the head of the deceased’, will be a gesture that restores peace and resonates with the justice system.
