Maseru, Oct.09—Advocate Letuka Molati has on Thursday told the Court of Appeal that a descending order must be exhausted before women are considered when an office of a chief is vacant.
This he said during his arguments in a case in which Joel Lechesa Mathealira, the second son of the late Chief Lechesa Jonathan Mathealira, is challenging succession in principal chieftainship.
The Late Chief Lechesa Jonathan Mathealira, who was the Principal Chief of Tsikoane, Peka and Kolbere passed away in December 2006 and his daughter-in-law Pontso Seoehla Mathealira, who is the widow of the late Seoehla Lechesa Mathealira, the first son of Chief Lechesa Mathealira, was installed as the Principal Chief, as her husband had died before the father.
Joel Lechesa Mathealira is currently challenging a decision of the High Court which was not in his favour and insists that he is the rightful successor of his father…
