DETECTIVE USES FACEBOOK TO WARN MELELE AGAINST PHONE SCAMS

Qacha’s Nek, June.17 — Detective Inspector Thabo Setenane, Manager of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) at Qacha’s Nek Police Station and Secretary of the Qacha’s Nek Men’s Forum, is using Facebook to alert Melele residents about phone scams.

Scammers call people, falsely claiming they have won money in competitions they never entered, and then demand payments to release the supposed prize.

In an interview with the Agency, Inspector Setenane said the warning follows frequent reports to the police of victims losing money through these fraudulent calls.

“I felt it was important to warn the community because many people fall victim to these scams,” he said. “Usually, our social media posts are lighthearted, but this time I wanted to share a message that could protect people.”. . . .
