DHMT COMMEMORATES ORAL HEALTH WEEK

Mohale’s Hoek, Aug.18 — In commemoration of Oral Health awareness week August, 25-29, the District Health Management Team ( DHMT) will hold a public gathering at Qalakheng aimed at educating communities about Oral and Mental health conditions.

This has been confirmed by DHMT’s Dental Therapist Ms. Realeboha Sekotlo in an interview with the Agency, by noting that this year’s campaign it targeting 13 years and above, who will educated on the relationship between oral and mental health, as studies have shown that the two maybe correlated.

 Ms. Sekotlo further stated that poor oral health can worsen mental conditions, adding that due anxiety and its severity, people with mental health issues tend to not be conscious of their oral health, adding that some mental conditions medication like Phenytoin lives one’s gums bruised, or dries up the mouth leaving bad breath resulting in low self-esteem. . .
