EXTENSION OFFICERS URGED TO KNOW THEIR FARMERS

Mokhotlong, Feb.03 — The Agricultural Extension Officers have been urged to increase effort in service delivery and ensure that they have a database of all farmers in the district.

The Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition Mr. Thabo Mofosi said this during a one-day visit in the district whose purpose was to tour the newly constructed Regional Agricultural Research Centre in Mokhotlong on Monday.

The centre is one of the Agricultural Productivity Programme for Southern Africa (APPSA) funded facility in the district and the aim was to view progress made since construction began in July 2023.

Construction of the Research Centre cost M4.8 million and comprised of an office, storerooms where pesticides will be kept, and two staff houses.

Mr. Mofosi said the Extension Officers should know their farmers by name and location adding that when such database is in place, it will be easier for the government through the Ministry to make appropriate estimates on farming inputs each farmer needs to embark on increased agricultural production. . .
