I HAD NO CHOICE – ACCUSED

Maseru, Jun.17 — Captain Mahlehle Moeletsi, one of the accused in a case in which ten members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) are charged with murder of three men whom they allegedly dumped their bodies into the Mohale Dam, says he had no choice but sign a statement made by the police in September 2017.

This he said while testifying in a trial within trial adding that he was subjected to torture by the police when he refused to sign the statement during interrogations. He pointed out that the police told him to implicate Brigadier Rapele Mphaki in the disappearance of the deceased.

He further added that he also had no choice but to repeat the contents of the statement before Magistrate Molapo as he was directed by the police. He said the police told him to choose between life and death or do as they instructed him. He indicated that his life was in danger adding that he was weak as a result of hunger and torture he was exposed to by the police. He emphasised that he thought of his family and chose to go to prison instead of dying.  . /
