MOHALE’S HOEK, September 12 — It is the initiation season in Lesotho and five initiates have begun their traditional education on Friday.
Moving from home grounds to the mountain to pursue their journey of manhood boys and young men over 18 years of age have joint the schools.
Chief Jerafantene Nkhahle Malebanye, Chief of Likueneng noted that traditional initiation is the only remaining stronghold of its kind in the Basotho culture while others are facing extinction.

He further indicated that they are proud as a community and district at large for the bravery of the initiates to seek manhood and said it is their responsibility as a initiates, young and old to protect, value and appreciate initiation so that young initiates can be inspired.
Chief Jerafantene also said it is important to instil respect, core values and sense of brotherhood among initiates so that they treat everyone with respect when they return from the mountain.. . .
