INTERNET SOCIETY SENSITIZES DCPT, TEACHERS ON ENCRYPTION 

Leribe, Oct. 17 — With the world developing technologically, Internet Society is on Friday sensitizing District Child Protection Team (DCPT) and teachers on the importance of coding in accessing the internet services at a one-day workshop held at Hlotse in Leribe on Friday.

Speaking at the workshop, Internet Society member and National University of Lesotho (NUL) Lecturer Mrs. ‘Mamoqena Morolong said coding is the process of converting information into a secret codes that hides the data’s true meaning.

Mrs. Morolong explained that coding entails privacy protection which keeps one’s personal communications and data confidential.

She again further stated that encryption provides financial security by protecting banking and payment information from theft.

Moreover, she said it gives commercial trust and enables secure e-commerce and digital business.

Speaking at the same event, Internet Society member Ms. Itumeleng Mofolo said encryption is not only technical but social safeguard.

In elaboration, she said it protects the right to privacy, enabling free expression and allows people to communicate without fear of surveillance.

Talking about reporting, she said encryption is vital for journalists, whistle blowers and activists by protecting their critical information.

Moreover, she indicated that it gives safety for vulnerable groups by protecting survivors of online harassment and stalking.

“It safeguards communication for children, teens and vulnerable communities while enabling safe digital spaces for support and reporting abuse,” she stated.

Speaking at the same event, Internet Society member Mr. Tieho Mochebelele said nations depend on data sovereignty for independence. . . .
