Mohale’s Hoek, Oct. 12 — Ke Bana Batho Bana, from Mafeteng has snached the 2024 Royal’s Cup held at The Race Course on Saturday, walking away with a whooping M15,000.00, followed by Hlaba Le Kene and Saenang Basotho from Mokhotlong and Semonkong respectively, courtesy of Econet Lesotho and Lesotho’s Jockeys Club.
The Vice President of Lesotho’s Jockeys Club Mr. Eeang Leemisa who stated that the club was established in 1986, asserted that there were no horses from RSA, as the constitution stipulates that horses need to be in the country 30 days prior to the race, to be familiar with the conditions, and concluded by noting horse owners will be paid the moment they leave the racecourse.
On the other hand, in an interview with the Agency, Econet’s Public Relations Specialist Mr. Rets’elisitsoe Nkhahle stated that horse racing is an event close to His Majesty King Letsie III’s heart, hence the company decided to sponsor it again following the success of the 2023 Royal Cup.
Mr. Nkhahle asserted that horses are part of Basotho nation, so in celebration of 200 years, ETL is giving back and developing communities,and highlighted the steadfast commitment to support activities aimed at promoting the nation’s history, noting ETL is also sponsoring Rugby in schools as the way of instilling oneness in Basotho Nation.
