KHETHENG MURDER TRIAL MOVES TO JUNE

Maseru, Apr. 22 — A case in which four police officers are charged with the murder of their colleague Police Constable Mokalekale Khetheng was on Wednesday postponed to June 03 2026 for the court to hear closing arguments.

The postponement comes after the defence led their last witness Advocate Motiea Teele (KC) who took a stand after one of the accused, Inspector Haleokoe Taasoana.

The accused in the matter: Taasoana, Senior Inspector Mabitle Matona, Retired Inspector Mothibeli Mofolo and  Retired Superintendent Thabo Tsukulu are alleged to have killed the deceased on March 26 2016.

It is alleged that Khetheng met his death following his arrest by the Hlotse Police. The defence insisted that he disappeared from the police when he was to meet his superiors.

In their evidence, all the accused denied involvement in the arrest and killing of the deceased. They stated that they are falsely implicated by the state witnesses.

The accused were initially charged together with former Commissioner of Police Molahlehi Letsoepa who reportedly fled the country. He however came back in 2025 and is currently out on bail.

They were also charged with the current Minister of Labour and Employment  Mr. Ts’eliso Mokhosi who however got the charges against him later dropped.

The case is before Justice Charles Hungwe.
