KHETHENG WAS NEVER BROUGHT TO ME-TS’UKULU

Maseru, Nov. 04—The High Court has on Tuesday heard that, after he was brought to the Hlotse Police Station by the police in March 2016, the late Police Constable (PC) Mokalekale Khetheng was never brought to Retired Superintendent Thabo Tsúkulu who was Officer Commanding Hlotse Police Station but at that time acting as District  Commissioner of Police.

This was revealed during continuation of a defence case whereby Superintendent Tsúkulu, who is one of the accused, is on the stand as one of the defence witnesses.

The witness told the court that he had on that day received a telephone call from the Mokhotlong District Commissioner of Police Senior Superintendent Makara who informed him that one of the police officers under him, PC Khetheng, had not been reporting for duty. He stated that Senior Superintendent Makhetha asked him to find Khetheng so that they could talk on the phone and so he could tell him to return to work.

“I then instructed Inspector Mofolo to look for Khetheng at Sebothoane where he stayed so that he could be brought to me and I connect him with his boss so that they would talk”, he said.

He testified that during his lunch break, he received a call from Inspector Mofolo indicating that Khetheng had been found and that the police came with him. He stated that he gave out an instruction that he should wait for him until he came back from the lunch break..
