Thaba Tseka, Oct. 16 — The District Council Secretary (DCS) says the landslide that occurred at Ha Matsumunyane has left some dead bodies exposed.
This, Mr. Thabo Letlatsa stated in an interview with the Agency on Monday where he said the donga in which the cemetery is located is gradually sliding and therefore that increases the chances of exposing more dead bodies.
Mr. Letlatsa said since some of the bodies are already being exposed it is their duty as the District Council to take full responsibility to fill that donga to stop the sliding to continue and expose more bodies.
He continued to state that currently only one grave has been affected adding it has not been identified as he said it looks like the deceased died ages ago and therefore none in the village can trace to whom it belongs.
Furthermore, he said they are obliged to act swiftly to stop the sliding from continuing by filling the donga with gabions as during the rainy seasons it might continue to slide.
The inspection of the cemetery happened on Sunday by the DCS and the District Administrator (DA) and they were informed by the Ha Mats’umunyane chief. The DCS has indicated that at the scene, they recognized something like the tibia and the fibula which are the two bones that form the lower leg.
It is reported this is the second time such an incident has been reported as it also happened at Ha Khoanyane in the previously.
