Berea, June 05 — The Lesotho Public Employees Union (LEPEU) visited Mapoteng Resource Centre today as part of its ongoing efforts to bring services closer to communities and improve access for members who are unable to travel to the union’s offices.
Speaking during the visit, LEPEU Secretary General Ms. Motebang Leboela said the initiative seeks to ensure that people receive quality services while providing an opportunity for the union to better understand and respond to the needs of its members.
Ms. Leboela explained that the union’s main objectives include advocacy and representation of public employees across all government sectors.
She noted that LEPEU assists members with dispute prevention and workplace conflict resolution, while also providing support in matters that proceed to the Labour Court and Labour Appeal Court.
She further stated that the union is raising awareness about bargaining councils established to address concerns within the public service.
According to Ms. Leboela, the Public Service Bargaining Council has already been registered and will provide a platform for addressing issues affecting public employees through structured dialogue.
Ms. Leboela added that LEPEU is currently in the process of registering a Health Sector Bargaining Council, which is expected to help prioritise health and safety issues in workplaces while addressing concerns affecting health workers.
She also highlighted development initiatives undertaken through Bahlanka Pele Financial Investment. Ms. Leboela revealed that one of the organisation’s goals for this year is to construct 13 houses for 13 beneficiaries as part of efforts to improve members’ welfare and contribute to community development.
The visit formed part of LEPEU’s broader commitment to ensuring that public employees have access to services and information regardless of their location, while strengthening engagement between the union and the communities it serves.
