Maseru, April 20 — The Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communication, Science, Technology and Innovation, Mr. Kanono Ramashamole said that Lesotho stands at a commendable stage of being rated highly advanced in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17, which focuses on partnerships for development.
He made these remarks during the official opening of the week-long 64th Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) Council Meeting and the Commonwealth Digital Roadyshow currently underway in Lesotho.
In his address, Mr. Ramashamole highlighted that the countrythrough his ministry has successfully established multiple strategic partnerships aimed at advancing the use of technology and accelerating digital transformation across various sectors.
He further noted that Lesotho has made significant progress in ensuring inclusivity in the digital space, particularly by incorporating the Sesotho language into Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems. This development, he said, is key to preserving local culture while promoting accessibility and participation in emerging technologies.
Mr. Ramashamole stated that the integration of indigenous languages into digital platforms is expected to enhance communication, improve service delivery, and enable more Basotho to actively engage in the digital economy.
He added that such initiatives align with global efforts to bridge the digital divide and ensure that no one is left behind in the rapidly evolving technological landscape.
The Principal Secretary also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between government, private sector, and international partners in sustaining momentum towards achieving national and global development goals.
He concluded by expressing optimism that the ongoing CTO meeting and associated activities, including the Commonwealth Digital Roadshow, will further strengthen partnerships and unlock new opportunities for innovation and growth in Lesotho.
