LESOTHO COMMEMORATES RARE DISEASE DAY

 Maseru, Feb. 29 – The Rare Disease Lesotho Association (RDLA) made history this year by commemorating Rare Disease Day (RDD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and World Health Organisation (WHO) Lesotho at an event held in Maseru on Thursday.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy National Coordinator Mr Mokhothu Makhalanyane emphasized the need for a more robust system for rare diseases, urging all to work together to ensure these conditions receive equal attention. He highlighted ongoing efforts to restructure the healthcare system and empower health facilities to better serve individuals with rare diseases through education and improved services.

Mr. Sejojo Phaaroe, a prominent human rights activist and Principal Medical Scientist, shed light on the genetic nature of rare diseases, explaining that they are deemed “rare” as they affect only one in 100 people. . .
