Maseru, Aug. 17 — Lesotho has made good progress towards implementation of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).
This was revealed by the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation Mr. Kanono Ramashamole in an interview with the Agency prior to the third voice of Global Summit staged virtually by India on Saturday.
Mr. Ramashamole said the country has just completed the national digital infrasutre strategy which entails digital ID, payment gateway as well as data exchange systems.
He added that his Ministry is engaging with other Ministries such as the Ministry of Local Government, Finance and that of Trade to ensure these three aspects of DPI become a success.
He said digitisation of the ID will promote accessibility of online services adding that there is progress towards the pilot of digital ID.
He also said the country has evaluated the tender for payment gateway, indicating that preparations for a Memorandum of Understanding between his Ministry and that of India are at an advanced stage.
“DPI is the main instrument that will drive Lesotho’s economic development as well as international cooperation” he stressed.
Meanwhile, the summit, whose theme is :” An Empowered Global South for a sustainable future” , is attended by 17 developing countries which are South of India.
