LESOTHO STRENGTHENS ITS GLOBAL VOICE

Maseru, Feb.03 — The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Lesotho  to the United Nations Ambassador  Matete ‘Nena, paid a formal courtesy visit to the UN-Women Deputy Executive Director for Normative Support, UN System Coordination, and Programme , Ms. Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda.

The meeting followed Lesotho’s election as one of the 10 African Member States to serve on the UN‑Women Executive Board for the 2026–2028 term which marks an important milestone in Lesotho’s commitment to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment.

During the discussion, Ambassador ‘Nena expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and the constructive exchange of ideas.

He emphasized the importance of clarity, collaboration, and shared purpose as Lesotho prepares to take up its responsibilities on the Board.

He reaffirmed Lesotho’s dedication to supporting UN‑Women’s mandate, strengthening multilateral cooperation and championing initiatives that promote gender equality, eliminate discrimination and empower women and girls.

Both parties concluded the meeting with optimism about the opportunities ahead and the potential for deeper collaboration.

The United Nations Programme for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women also known as UN Women is a United Nations agency charged with working for gender equality and the empowerment of women. UN Women is charged with advocating for the rights of women and girls and focusing on a number of issues including violence against women and violence against LGBTQI people.
