Maseru, Nov. 04 — In commemoration of the #MedSafety Week campaign, Lesotho is part of the launch of the ninth global #MedSafety Week campaign, where Lesotho Medicines Regulatory Authority (LeMERA) is one of 104 partner organisations. These global campaign is said to run from 4 to 10 November
Speaking with Mrs. Marelebohile Mabuzela from the Department of Pharmaceutical, the Ministry of Health said this year’s theme centres on the importance of using medicines in the right way to prevent side effects, and to report side effects when they do occur.
She stated that medicines are used by millions of people to treat their illness. However, sometimes it can cause side effects and by using medicines correctly, people can drastically reduce the risk of side effects and severe harm. And by reporting side effects when they occur, we can help make medicines safer for everyone.
”Patient safety is our top priority and during the #MedSafety Week campaign, we want to remind patients to take their medicines as instructed and healthcare professionals to review therapies before prescribing them,” said Mrs. Mabuzela.
