LESOTHO TO BE AFFECTED BY EL NINO

Maseru, Oct. 14 — The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Mr. Limpho Tau has warned Basotho that the country will be affected by El Nino starting this month.

This, he said in his statement, indicating that as is always the case in summer, bad weather conditions are expected this summer including thunderstorms, strong winds, hail and floods, saying they will exacerbate due to climate change.

However, he said his Ministry and Department of Meteorology will continue to update members of the public about weather conditions that may put their welfare at risk.

He further said his Ministry through Disaster Management Authority has come up with an anticipatory action before el nino with the support from World Food Program in the districts of Mafeteng, Mohale’s Hoek, Quthing and Thaba-Tseka.
