LITENTENG BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES

Maseru, Jan.15—Despite the halt on the ongoing construction of Litenteng bridge Ha-Tsunyane Roma on Wednesday due to the Water and Sanitation Company (WASCO) pipe running through the bridge site, the work resumed on Thursday.

Since the bridge collapsed in 2020, after that WASCO installed water pipes which ran over there but now the construction has to happen and the water pipe could be affected.

This was confirmed by Community Councillor Mr. Sipho Ramalitse in an interview where he said since this is the project by the Council, they had a meeting with the water company in which they have concluded to divert the pipe to the fields nearby so that Litenteng community continue having water.

He said it was an oversight on WASCO’s part while installing pipes that were running through the bridge site. He assured the community that the work has resumed and will go ahead as planned.

Meanwhile Litenteng bridge collapsed in December 2020 due to heavy rains and the villagers made a temporary structure while awaiting the government to construct the access bridge.

The temporary bridge that was eroded in March 2025 was the second one as the first one collapsed in December 2023 during heavy rains.

The structure was made of available materials such as poles made from trees from the forest, cement and corrugated iron sheets.

The construction is being done by the Manonyane Community Council through engagement of local contractors and labourers.
