LUCAPA OWES GOVT 0VER M30 MILLION IN ROYALTIES

Maseru, July 22 — The Lucapa Diamond Mines which is an operator company under the Mothae Mine owes the Government of Lesotho M33 million in royalties dating back to eight years ago.

This was revealed during the Ministry of Natural Resources appearance before the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) at the New Parliament Building in Maseru on Monday.

Acting Commissioner of Mines Mr Mohato Moimane told the Committee that this amount was accumulated for the past eight years after the Mine failed to pay the royalties which it was supposed to pay after every sales transaction.

He told the Committee members that Lucapa failed to pay the royalties on time due to its operational expenses it experienced since 2019.
