MAKHALANYANE SAYS LESOTHO USED AVAILABLE SYSTEMS TO SHOCKS

Leribe, June. 17 — The chairperson of Social Cluster in the Parliament of Lesotho says the government of Lesotho has over the years responded to the public health events using available systems that worked to some extent.

Mr. Mokhothu Makhalanyane highlighted this, at the graduation event for 50 African Health Volunteers Corps (AVoHC) SURGE responders by Ministry of Health through World Health Organization in association with Africa Centres for Disease and Prevention (CDP) held at Hlotse in Leribe on Sunday.

He explained that as a result Strengthening and Utilizing Response Groups for Emergencies (SURGE) flagship initiative strives to prioritize and strengthen multisectoral coordination through the National Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) and Public Health Emergency Operation Centre (PHEOC).

Additionally, he said it works towards strengthening the operational support and logistics, risk communication and community engagement as well as work force development. . .
