MATLAKENG LEGISLATOR CONDEMNS SECURITY AGENCIES JOINT STATEMENT

Maseru, Oct 19 – Under fire Member of Parliament for Matlakeng constituency Dr. Mahali Phamotse condemned the joint statement made by the security agencies heads in the National Assembly on Thursday.

When moving an urgent motion of public importance, Dr. Phamotse said such statement was uncalled for, blaming Police Commissioner Mr. Holomo Molibeli, National Security Service (NSS) Director General Mr. Pheello Ralenkoane and Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) Commander Lieutenant General Mojalefa Letsoela for having crossed their constitutional boundaries.

She told the House that the trio should have told the public that they would protect the constitution rather than threatening the opposition that they would not tolerate their no confidence, citing that it was an attempt to overthrow a legitimately elected government.

Dr. Phamotse said the security agencies heads have no jurisdiction to dictate the business of the parliament, saying even their mandate is only to protect the constitution.
