Qacha’s Nek, July.16 — Residents of ’Melikane are taking charge of their future, working together voluntarily to restore the environment while improving their livelihoods through the Regeneration of Livelihoods and Landscapes (ROLL) project.
Led by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MEF), in partnership with the Ministries of Agriculture and Trade, the ROLL initiative continued on Wednesday with the formation of regeneration coalitions at the council, including the villages of ’Melikane Clinic, Ha Chale, Mahoeng, Thueleng, and Ha Khanya.
Local associations made up of youth, men, and women gathered to form two coalitions representing interest groups such as grazing, beekeeping, nutrition clubs, cooperatives, and sports.
These coalitions then outlined what they need to enhance their livelihoods, including greenhouses, piggery and poultry farming to produce both meat and eggs, among other things.
Speaking to the Agency, Ms. Relebohile Ramalaka, Range Technical Officer from the MEF, explained that the project goes beyond environmental work. . .
