MEN IN COURT FOR CONTRAVENING WITH STOCKTHEFT ACT

Mafeteng, August 14 — The Mafeteng Magistrate Court has cautioned and released Molati Moeketse (32) of Mathebe, Motholela Sefali (18) Ha Tjobe in Thabana-Morena and Khoabane Mats’aba of Linots’ing in Thabana-Morena for contravening with stock theft Act No. 4 of 2000.

According to the evidence led before court the convicts were found herding 14 cattle and 11 sheep near Ha Lumisi without proper documents on August 09, 2023 thus committing crime hence the arrest and conviction.

It showed that on the mentioned date following information provided by members of the community, three men were found driving the mentioned livestock illegally without valid documents as they were in possession of valid bewys of four cattle while ten cattle were bewys had expired and invalid bewys of six sheep while five other sheep have valid documents and having livestock booklets confirming their ownership.

In mitigation they pleaded guilty as charged, asking for lenient punishment being the first offenders and pledging to go to their respective home and correct all those invalid documents since those livestock belong to them.  

Senior Resident Magistrate Nkuebe Ramabele cautioned the convicts and encouraged them to go and rectify the documents of their livestock papers to avoid cases of this nature.

It was prosecuted by the Public Prosecutor Michael Senatla.
