MPs URGED TO APPROACH BILL WITH SOBER MINDS

Maseru, Sept. 09 — The Leader of Opposition Mr. Mathibeli Mokhothu has strongly urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to approach the Public Debt Management Bill, 2024 with sober minds as it is important.

This he said when moving for amendment of clause 3 by deleting the whole clause and be substituted  with “this Act applies to the government, it’s offices, agents and diplomatic missions outside Lesotho, as well as statutory bodies, public entities, local authorities and any public-private partnership arrangement where the government has direct or contingent financial obligations.”

He reminded the House that where the draft of a Bill is reviewed, it should be clear on whether it is a good piece of legislation or not, saying the draft should be constitutional, transparent and accountable.

He concluded by commending the Minister of Finance and Development Planning for the Bill as it will benefit the country. . . .
