Mokhotlong, Nov.19– A consultation meeting on the review of the National Risk Reduction (DRR) Policy of 2011 was held for members of the District Disaster Management Team (DDMT) in Mokhotlong on Wednesday.
Consultations were facilitated by amongst others Mrs. ‘Mantele Boroko who is the Principal Legal Officer at the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) Headquarters in Maseru and the Qacha’s Nek District Disaster Manager (DDM) Mrs. ‘Matsitso Motemekoane.
Mrs. Boroko therefore said since DMA is in the process of updating the Disaster Management Act of 1997, there is need to review the DRR Policy as it is already outdated.
She said the views have been collected from different stakeholders from the districts, there will be another one that will be held in Maseru that would lead to views being consolidated.
In their views, the team recommended amongst others that decentralisation of services such as Procurement unit be available in districts so that when disasters occur procurement of items needed be done there and then for timely response…
