NUTRITION CLUBS ON FOOD PRESERVATION

Mafeteng, March 18 — As part of efforts to improve nutrition and fight food insecurity the established Nutrition Clubs within seven District Resource Centers are currently engaged on food preservation.

The activity is being carried out within seven District Resource Centers namely Ramokoatsi, Kolo, Tsakholo, Ribaneng, Matelile, Mosala and Thabana Morena respectively.

In an interview with the District Nutrition Officer, Ms.Limpho Ramanyaka said the initiative is aimed at helping Nutrition Clubs to ensure healthy feeding of households members while at the same time preventing food spoilage until it can be consumed.

She highlighted that the method also offers an opportunity to have a wide variety of food all year round rather than having food once and for all after harvest or slaughter waiting for the next season indicating that there are types of food preservation methods such as pickling, drying, freezing, sugaring, canning, smoking and salting.
