POWER OUTAGE HALTS SALES OF FARMING INPUTS IN QACHA’S NEK

Qacha’s Nek, Oct. 16 — Farmers in Qacha’s Nek were left frustrated on Thursday as the sale of agricultural inputs was brought to a sudden halt due to a district-wide power outage.

The Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC) confirmed that the blackout, which began at 5:00 AM and is expected to last until 5:00 PM, is a result of maintenance work.

The Agency has learned that maintenance work is currently underway at Civadel, the power station that supplies electricity to the entire district.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition (MAFSN), the disruption couldn’t have come at a worse time. District Crop Production Officer (DCPO), Mrs. Mampai Mokone, revealed that 200 bags of potato seeds had just arrived on Tuesday.
