PRETORIA HIGH COURT ORDERS POLICE TO SEND ARVs DOWN MINE SHAFT

Maseru, Nov. 19—The Pretoria High Court has ordered the South Africa Police Service (SAPS) to send antiretroviral (ARVs) to more than 4000 illegal miners underground in the Stilfontein abandoned mine shaft in the North West.

This follows a plea from the same miners that some have become weak due to hunger, dehydration and lack of access to basic necessities and medication.

More than 1000 illegal miners have resurfaced and arrested.

The Pretoria High Court further issued a temporary ruling, mandating access for emergency workers and ensuring miners can exit without obstruction…
