Mafeteng, March 10 — The District Principal Gender OFFICER, Mr. Katiso Mifi from the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development says gender based violence takes place everyday.
He was speaking at the Round-Table Meeting on Gender Based Violence held at Thakaneng on Monday where he said it affects people at workplaces, home and school.
Mr. Mifi indicated that up until today majority of people do not understand the word gender as they decribed it differently, saying it means that everyone is a person.
Speaking during the meeting the attendees indicated that strengthening coordination, liaison and shafing could be mainstreamed through organised public gatherings, public places and social media.
They however encouraged that establishment of the District Gender Based Task Team should be revised first as they there are many teams of this nature dealing with the same issue.
They agreed that they need to go back and rethink about the structure as such teams are being made with same members calling it duplication of efforts.
The concluded by suggesting that the ministry should organised another meeting where the attendees are expected to come out with ideas that would be useful in establishing the District Gender Based Task Team.
When established the task team will serv e as a coordination platform to strengthen collaboration, improve information sharing and ensure collective action in addressing Gender Based Violence issues within the district.
The participants were drawn from different government ministries and non-governmental organizations.
