PRIME MINISTER’S OFFICE IS MANDATED TO OVERSEE WORK DONE BY GOVERNMENT MINISTRIES – MOLEKO

Mafeteng, Jan. 21 — The Principal Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Thabo Moleko says his ministry’s mandate is to oversee all work done by government ministries working together with the Ministry of Energy.

He was addressing members of the District Celebration Committee Members and local authorities prior to handing over of the Rural Electrification Project to 12 villages within Qalabane constituency during the meeting held at the District Administrator’s premises on Tuesday.

Mr. Moleko informed the gathering that beside the rural electrification project there is also a completion of Econet tower at Ha Leponesa and that of Vodacom at Ts’upane.

He stated that as part of the handover celebration vulnerable households selected with the assistance of area chiefs will also be given food parcels while vulnerable pupils from nearby schools will be provided with school uniform and stationery.

Speaking at the same occasion the Principal Secretary from the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Tankiso Phapano notified the attendees that as part of the handover of the projects, government ministries are also expected to provide services to members of the community in the area.

He highlighted that there will be stalls for the business community whereby they will also be displaying their products, saying all civil servants attending the ceremony are expected to wear school uniform as the theme of the day.

Mr. Phapano clarified that business communities are not expected to pay anything but support the activity, indicating that the ceremony is financed by the Ministry of Energy.

Mr. Khafa Kuenane called on the Lesotho Electricity Company headquarters to provide them with human resource to assist in household testing so that the ceremony will be conducted all of them attended, saying currently they are lacking human resource.

He said currently they are operating understaffed due to shortage of staff at the district level since they still have to attend daily faults and other duties, clarifying that one week will be enough to complete the work.

Meanwhile, the Rural Electrification Project handed over to three villages of Ha Leponesa, Ha Motanyane and Makaung.
