QUTHING WOMEN ENGAGED IN FOOD PRESERVATION

Quthing, Feb. 12 — Women from different villages in six Agricultural Resource Centres of the Quthing district are currently engaged in fruits and vegetables preservation to be used by their families when they are out of season.

In an interview with the Agency, the District Nutrition Officer from Quthing Department of Agriculture and Food Security Mrs. Makabelo Mokhesuoe said different vegetables and fruits are found in large quantities during this season until April and should be preserved for maintenance of proper nutrition when they are out of season.

Mrs. Mokhesuose said most of the women are currently caning and drying fruits such as apples and peaches, and green leafy vegetables that include as rape and spinach   ith direct sunlight for income generation and to be used in their families when they are out of season.

She commended Basotho women from different villages including those from hard to reach areas by road transport for use of locally available resources to preserve peaches and apples, that are easy to get during this season until April and they will again be harvested the next summer season.
