Qacha’sNek, May 20 — A Bolahla reconstruction project initiated last month is at 85 percent progress.
This was revealed by Roads Directorate Public Relations Manager, Mrs. Nozesolo Matela in an interview with the Agency on Monday.
This comes after the contractor, Lesotho Consolidated Civil Contractors was appointed for the four months project which began on April 8 and ends in August 2024.
Mrs. Matela said that the project will be carried out at a cost of M20.7 million.
She further said the scope of the project includes curve widening, asphalt base and surfacing, protection works and pitching, road signs and road marking and gabions repair.
She disclosed that socio economic benefits for the A4 road rehabilitation are; increased trade and investment, facilitating market access, lowering vehicle maintenance costs, enhanced tourism and improved access to services.
A private motorist, Mr. Chele Makoae commended the government for the initiative.
“Drivers lost control there therefore its rehabilitation will help in reducing road accidents,” he said.
A public motorist, Mr. Mothe Ramahetlane shared similar sentiments adding that it was a challenge for most drivers.
“I hope it will be in a good state upon completion and be maintained to avoid potholes,” he said.
A pedestrian thanked the government for finally hearing their outcry.
District Administrator, (DA) Mr. Habofanoe Pheku said he was proud that the road was finally rehabilitated.
“Incidents occurring there were scary,” he said recalling the recent fatal accident which claimed numerous lives.
Communities served by the road are Ha-Sekake, Ha Ralekoala, Letlapeng, Whitehill, Thaba-Ts’oeu and Ha Mothesele.
