THABA TSEKA LEADS WITH OPEN DEFECATION 

Thaba Tseka, Nov. 20 — Research shows that more than half of the population in Thaba Tseka still practices open defecation.

This was stated during the commemoration of World Toilet Day on November 19 by the WASH Advisor in the Ministry of Natural Resources, Mr. Masheane Nkopane, while addressing the Heads of Departments (HODs) and the District Disaster Management Team (DDMT).

According to Mr. Nkopane, based on the district sectoral ladder, open defecation in Thaba Tseka stands at 54,1 percent, Households with unimproved pit latrines 24.54 percent, limited service 9,1 percent and those with at least the basics stand at 34.4 percent.

He indicated that Mokhotlong follows Thaba Tseka with 46 percent.

Mr. Nkopane further indicated that faeces is the most dangerous pollutant, carrying 10,000,000 viruses, 1,000 bacteria, 1,000 parasite cysts, and 100 parasite eggs.
