Mohale’s Hoek, Feb.17– Assistant Commissioner of Police ‘Mats’epo Soko, says the search for a nine-month-old boy who drowned in Maphuts’aneng conducted by the Diving Team from Maseru has been unsuccessful.
ACP Soko however noted that the South African Police Services (SAPS) is reported to have found the body of a boy but has not yet verified if it is the one from Maphuts’aneng, and referred the Agency to the Criminal Investigations Division, (CID) for further details.
Sub-Inspector Masiphole Ramatsie from the CID stated that upon receiving a tip off from a family member about the body discovered by the SAPS at Palmietfontein, he contacted his counterpart who confirmed the suspicions, noting the body has been taken to the Forensic Department.
Sub-Inspector Ramatsie concluded by stating that the expectation is that the DNA tests will be performed to the parents, or the infant’s late sister to find out if the boy is indeed the one who drowned in Maphuts’aneng.
The nine months infant drowned alongside his fourteen-year-old sister who was carrying him during the incident about two weeks ago, but her body was later recovered.
