WASH PROJECT AIMS TO CONSTRUCT FACILITIES IN SCHOOLS, RURAL COMMUNITIES

Mafeteng, August 13 — The WASH Project Officer Mr. Khotso Likhomo says the Metsi a Lesotho WASH Project is a joint initiative by the Government of Lesotho, European Union  and UNICEF to improve access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene in rural communities, schools and health facilities.

He made the remarks during a three a day Metsi a Lesotho WASH Project Kick Off Meeting held at Mafube Guest House on Tuesday where he said the project aims to construct or rehabilitate WASH facilities in two hundred fifty rural communities, hundred twenty five schools and fifteen health facilities countrywide.

He stated that even today there are some rural communities who are still in dire need of clean water and sanitation who are working more than thirty minutes to fetch water and going back home.

The WASH Project Officer highlighted that they are targeting to provide at least fifty percent of rural communities by the end of 2030 particularly if they still lack resources while it should be fifty sixty percent in urban areas and added that they had to double efforts to reach hundred percent.
