APPRECIATE YOUR ROOTS – MAHAO

Qacha’s Nek, Mar. 11 — Minister of Energy, Professor Nqosa Mahao told Melele that as they commemorate Moshoeshoe’s day and 200 years anniversary, they should appreciate and honor the establishment of the Basotho nation from Butha Buthe to Thaba Bosiu.

This he disclosed during Moshoeshoe’s day commemoration held at Melele ground.

Professor Mahao revealed that it is through King Moshoeshoe I that they are proud to call themselves the Basotho nation.

“We are a united nation,” he said.

He said the fact that Basotho foundation has been shaken can not be ignored.

“We must return to our roots and rely on Se Moshoeshoe to get our country out of the miseries of murders, poverty and unemployment,” said Professor Mahao.

To young people, he said they have hope that with the skills, knowledge, research and education they will guide this nation of King Moshoeshoe to glory and salvation.

“I appeal to you young people that this country is yours, love it, grow it and protect it, pray for peace and sow the seeds of peace, love and reconciliation,” he said adding “If you want peace, it should start with you and those around you, remember that we are one thing.”

He urged Melele to challenge those who did not make it to the event to deepen thoughts about the life, virtues and activities of Moshoeshoe to copy them in order to bring about change in this country which Basotho inherited due to the sacrifice of their elders 200 years ago.

District Administrator (DA) Mr. Habofanoe Pheku said Moshoeshoe’s day history should be paid attention to in schools.

Speaking to the Agency, one of the attendees, Mrs. ‘Mampho Makoae said it is fulfilling to be part of the historic event.

“It always feels good to be reminded where we come from,” she said.

Moshoeshoe’s day is an annual national holiday in Lesotho observed on March 11.

Celebrations include the laying of wreaths on Moshoeshoe’s grave at Thaba Bosiu by a delegation led by Lesotho’s monarch, a celebratory parade and other entertainment activities.

Lesotho this year marks the 200th anniversary celebration since the establishment of Basotho nation.
