Maseru, July 28 — The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition has expressed concern over the continued smuggling of eggs into Lesotho, despite a government-imposed import ban announced earlier this year.
On behalf of the Minister of Agriculture, The Minister of Social Development Mr. Pitso Lesaoana, stated that while the government has implemented a ban on several consumable commodities such as cabbage, eggs, and potatoes some individuals continue to smuggle eggs across the border in defiance of the regulations.
He emphasized that the Ministry is committed to working with all stakeholders to bring such illegal activities to a halt.
Meanwhile, the Ministry’s Director of Marketing, Mr. Lekhooe Makhate, announced that the Ministry will carry out weekly inspections to ensure that local farmers comply with regulations governing sales standards, pricing, and overall compliance with the new policies..NT/BM
