MASERU, July 3 – Beautiful Gate Lesotho’s 25th anniversary corporate breakfast opened with a call for individuals and organisations to invest their skills, time and compassion in transforming the lives of vulnerable children, with organisers saying lasting change begins with what people are willing to give rather than what they own.
Held under the theme “Invest in a Child, Transform a Nation,” the commemorative event reflected on the ministry’s journey over the past quarter century and recognised the people whose dedication has enabled the organisation to care for hundreds of children across Lesotho.
Delivering the opening remarks, Mr. Mark West said the ministry was founded on the biblical account in Acts 3, where the Apostle Peter told a lame beggar at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have, I give you.”
He said that scripture continues to define Beautiful Gate’s mission, emphasising that meaningful service is measured not only by financial resources but also by the willingness to share one’s knowledge, skills, love and compassion with those in need.
Mr. West said for 25 years the organisation has sought to restore hope to vulnerable children by providing a safe and loving environment while working to place them in permanent families through adoption and foster care wherever possible.
He noted that the success of the ministry has been built on the commitment of people from different professions and backgrounds, including nurses, social workers, administrators, lawyers, house mothers, gardeners, cleaners and many other support staff who have dedicated themselves to improving children’s lives.
He also acknowledged the contribution of volunteers, churches and partners from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Netherlands and South Africa, saying their continued support has strengthened the organisation’s work in Lesotho.
Mr. West paid special tribute to founders Ray and Sue Hutchinson, whose vision gave birth to Beautiful Gate during one of the country’s most difficult periods, saying their faith and commitment laid a foundation that continues to impact generations of children.
He said the organisation’s journey has not been without challenges, recalling that Beautiful Gate has experienced seasons of both great blessing and severe hardship over the past two and a half decades.
Despite those difficulties, he said the ministry has remained steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that vulnerable children experience love, dignity and the opportunity to build brighter futures.
The gathering also observed a moment of silence in memory of children, staff members and supporters who have died over the years, honouring their contribution to the Beautiful Gate community.
Mr. West concluded by encouraging individuals, businesses and development partners to continue supporting initiatives that strengthen families and protect children, saying investing in children is an investment in Lesotho’s future.
The corporate breakfast formed part of a series of activities marking Beautiful Gate Lesotho’s 25th anniversary, celebrating a legacy of faith, service and hope under the theme “Invest in a Child, Transform a Nation.”
