FORMER OMBUDSMAN COMMENDS GOVERNMENT ON NATIONAL DIALOGUE

MASERU – Advocate Leshele Thoahlane KC, who is former Ombudman and Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Chairperson has commended government for engaging with the society through National Accountability Dialogue Summit.

“The ongoing summit of this nature is a noble move showcasing how interactive democracy operates,” Advocate Thoahlane said.

He alluded that through the dialogue, voters are reminded how powerful their votes are and that they form part of democracy. He further added that gone are the days when Parliamentarians were elected in different Constituencies, went to National Assembly and never came back to give society feedback.

Meanwhile, the Veteran also pointed out major achievements worth applauding from the Prime Minister’s speech when he officiated the three day summit and that is matters relating to issuance of passports amongst others.

He said tracking of passports online by applicants will not only ease congestion at the offices but will also help applicants have ownership while their hope in terms of service delivery is to be restored.

However, he expressed the need for officers (Home Affairs) to respond quickly when citizens ask questions while also demanded that there be committees to counter check implementation in this regard.

Friday marks last day and day three of the summit and matters to be dealt with on the agenda include matters relating to law and justice as well as addressing issues of corruption.

Other issues dealt with previously include water and sanitation, solid waste management and energy amongst others.

The public will also be expected to engage by asking questions as the programme is aired via national television, questions are also to be asked through WhatsApp texts on +26663941787.
