Maseru, July 19 — With child labour reported to be on the rise in the country, the National Children’s Parliament has lamented the government over the pending bills which protect children against the violation of their human rights.
This year’s parliamentary session for young leaders convened under a theme, “Education for all, challenges facing wellbeing and development of children in Lesotho”.
Led by Ms. Reitumetsi Mokoma as the young Prime Minister and Mr. Gift Rangoajane as the young leader of opposition, the children’s parliament got engaged into the much heated debate on the motion, “Community and family norms affecting quality education and wellbeing for all children in Lesotho”.
The children’s parliament tabled several issues harmful practices whereby children are forced to drop out the schools only to herd livestock, while others are recruited to babysit other children, and boys are dragged to initiation schools.
