COMMUNICATION IN CRISES, A LIFELINE FOR SURVIVAL- MARAISANE

Qacha’s Nek, Oct. 2—In an urgent call to action, Ms. Violet Maraisane, Communication Manager for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), emphasized the life-saving power of effective communication during emergencies.

Speaking at a three-day workshop focused on the intersection of food insecurity and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), she highlighted how timely information can  alleviate the impacts of crises.

“Emergency communications are vital,” Maraisane stated. “They ensure safety, coordinate responses, and disseminate essential information when it matters most.”

She said key players in this critical process include government agencies, humanitarian organizations, local authorities, media, community leaders, and international partners. Maraisane outlined various communication channels, from traditional media to digital platforms and community networks, emphasizing the need for accessible information…
