Berea, July 09 — Ha Mokonyana Community Council Councilor, Mr. Lekhera Machabe has raised concern over rising assault cases in the area, with three recent incidents leaving one person dead and two others injured.
Speaking in an interview with the Agency, Mr. Machabe said assault is one of the main challenges facing the council, with recent worrying cases as one person lost his life while two others sustained injuries, and one of them was admitted to the hospital.
He said knives and wooden rods are the weapons most commonly used during these assaults, adding that the incidents mostly occur at local drinking establishments and take place during both the day and night.
Mr. Machabe said the council usually addresses the issue of violence during community gatherings but the discussions have not yielded any noticeable impact, as assault cases continue to occur in the area.
He appealed to the police to hold community gatherings within the council to educate residents about the dangers of violence and the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully, adding that such gatherings would help reduce assault cases and prevent further loss of life.
