COURT GIVES SUSPENDED SENTENCE IN DOMESTIC ASSAULT CASE

Qacha’s Nek, Jan.16– A 43-year-old man of Tsoelike, Waterfall, currently residing at Motse-mocha, has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment or a fine of M2,000 after being convicted of aggravated assault.

Senior Resident Magistrate Ts’eliso Bale of the Qacha’s Nek Magistrate Court imposed the sentence on Thabo Ntlhola but suspended it on condition that he pays M2,000 compensation to the complainant by January 30, 2026.

In handing down the sentence, Magistrate Bale said the court had considered that Ntlhola was a first-time offender and had pleaded guilty, thereby saving the court’s time.

Ntlhola was found guilty as charged in contravention of Section 31 (1) and 2 (a), read with Section 109 (1) of the Penal Code Act No. 6 of 2010. The court heard that on January 10, 2026, at Motse-mocha, Ntlhola intentionally caused serious bodily harm to the complainant by beating her with a rod, resulting in multiple wounds to her left hand.

Crown Counsel ’Mants’ebo Mofoka accepted his plea and told the court that evidence from the complainant would show that she lives with the accused and that they have three children — twins aged 18 and a 10-year-old child…
